Lampworking Classes & Studio Time
We began making lampworked glass beads in 2004 after Jess tried her
hand at it and fell in love with the medium. Since then, we have
studied different techniques through reading, watching, and
experimenting. We both work full-time at the torch and have
decided to begin passing on our knowledge and enthusiasm through
classes, studio time, workshops, and group critiques. All of our classes will be held in Gig Harbor, Washington and most of them will be weekday evening classes due to our show schedule (weekend classes will only be held in our winter off-season). We are not offering any classes at this time, but feel free to
contact us to be added to our email list for when we set a schedule.
Beginning Soft-Glass Lampworking Classes
Our beginning lampworking class consists of 8 hours of class time in
either 1 full-day class or 2 part-day classes. During the class you
will be instructed in the basic skills needed to start making glass
beads as well as all of the information you will need to be
able to work safely and confidently in our studio. Our beginning
class curriculum will include:
Basic Torch Safety

How To Make A Basic Bead
Ways To Salvage A Messed Up Bead
Pulling Stringer
Laying Dots
Things To Do With Dots
All of the beads you make in class will be yours to take home at the
end of the day. All materials and equipment as well as lunch or a
snack will be included.

2-Weekday Evening Classes.....5pm-9pm

Studio Time
Open studio time will be available on a regular basis when we are
based out of our Gig Harbor studio. During studio time, all equipment
and tools will be provided for the cost of the rental fee. Glass will
be available for purchase from us, or you can bring your own. While
you are working, we will both be available to answer questions, but
please remember, this is not a class. Completion of our beginning
lampworking class is required, other situations will be evaluated on
a case by case basis.
$20 per hour
Group Critiques
Occassionally we will offer something we are calling a Group Critique.
During a Group Critique, each participant will be given the
opportunity to show some of their beads and have them discussed by
fellow students as well as us. The purpose of this is to provide both
feedback and support in an atmosphere designed to facilitate the bond
many glass workers have with each other. Group Critiques will usually
last a couple of hours and each participant will be asked to bring a
potluck item to share with the group. Torch time will be available
during the group critique to try things discussed in the group.
$20
Technique Workshops
From time-to-time we will offer special Technique Workshops, during
which we will focus on one lampworking technique and give thorough
instuction on how to do it and ways to apply that technique to
achieve different looks. Torch time will be available during the
workshop to try the techniques and for practice. Workshop
durration will vary depending on what is being taught.
